Handspun Denim

Handspun Denim

Denim is distinguished from the other fabrics by its characteristic weave, which is the twill weave. Typically made using cotton yarns, it has become one of the most favoured wardrobe staples. The type of weave used in denim creates the signature diagonal texture throughout the fabric.

Although it is most popularly found in a combination of indigo and white yarns, it’s not the colour that defines this fabric.

11.11/eleven eleven celebrates the first ever Indian denim developed using handspun yarn made of an indigenous organic cotton called kala cotton.

The yarns are spun on an amber charka, a semi mechanised spinning wheel, and dyed in 100% natural plant-based dyes, if the fabric needs to be coloured.

The 11.11/eleven eleven hand spun denim is 11.5 oz in weight and has 11.11 signature selvedge in ecru (unbleached white).

Denim is infamous for its negative ecological impact, especially in terms of its water usage in production and water pollution. The handspun denim of 11.11/eleven eleven portrays the efforts to transform one of the most polluting textiles into the most sustainable, without compromising on style or quality. The fabric has zero chemical content and is 100% biodegradable. Handspun and hand woven cotton textiles have 93% less carbon emissions than mill made cotton textiles, completely reversing the ecological impact of the fabric.
