Product Details

This creamy patchwork fabric is composed of various weights of hand-woven remnant fabric - hand quilted together by women located in the remote region of Kutch. Contrast and tonal stitching meanders over the fabric like ripples on water.

About Kantha :

To make clothes, pattern pieces are cut out of fabric and then stitched together into a finished product. Rather than discarding the fabric leftover from this process - we find an application for each and every piece assigning value down to the last thread. This approach of re-centering the marginal fabric pieces and seeing value in everything is a mindset that can be called zero waste. It reflects reverence for life and the natural resources  : the land it came from , the people - the way they live and all the efforts involved along the journey of transforming cotton to cloth.

Historically quilt making has been a symbol of women’s creativity / resourcefulness - arising when shortages of cloth called for inventive salvaging of fabric into functional records marked by moments of wear, tear and time. Patchwork reflects a transformational possibility offering us an example of how to turn a fractured present into something that can function again.
